Krohne Flow Meters: High-Performance Process Instrumentation for Complex Media
Quick Answer: Krohne flow meters are built for aggressive chemicals, non-conductive oils, high solid slurries, and other difficult process media. Silver Instruments offers comparable Coriolis, electromagnetic, ultrasonic, vortex, and oval gear meters for these same applications. Send your pipe size, flow range, pressure, and temperature for a specific quote.
Why Complex Media Demands a Different Flow Meter
Many standard flow meters fail when the fluid is not clean water. A magnetic flow meter needs minimum conductivity. A turbine meter jams on solids. A differential pressure meter drifts on viscous polymer. Engineers who deal with paints, resins, brines, liquefied gas, or sludge know this.
Krohne addresses these problems with electromagnetic meters for conductive liquids, Coriolis meters for mass flow regardless of density, and ultrasonic meters for non-invasive installation. Silver Instruments supplies the same meter types with similar process connections, outputs, and certifications. We focus on practical project pricing for Southeast Asia, Australia, Latin America, Africa, and the Middle East.
Meter Selection by Complex Media
Corrosive acids and alkalis: Use a PTFE or PFA lined electromagnetic flow meter. Check the conductivity is above 5 µS/cm. Most engineers skip this check until the meter reads zero. Common sizes range from DN10 to DN300. Outputs include 4-20 mA HART and pulse. Silver Instruments offers a DN15 to DN200 magmeter with PTFE liner for sulphuric acid and hydrochloric acid dosing.
High viscosity resins and pastes: A Coriolis mass flow meter measures mass directly in kg/h. Viscosity up to 50,000 cP is not a problem for many models. One paint manufacturer in Vietnam replaced a gear meter with a DN25 Coriolis meter from Silver Instruments. The line pressure was 12 bar and the flow range was 30 to 600 kg/h.
Non-conductive oils and solvents: Electromagnetic meters cannot measure these fluids. Choose an oval gear flow meter for diesel, lubricants, or solvents. Silver Instruments offers oval gear meters with 0.5% accuracy and pulse output for batching systems.
Slurries and sludge: An electromagnetic flow meter with abrasion resistant liner works well for mining slurry and wastewater sludge. A customer in Chile used a DN150 magmeter with polyurethane liner on a copper tailings line. The solids content was 20 percent by weight.
Liquefied gas and cryogenic media: Vortex flow meters with integrated PT100 temperature compensation handle LNG, LPG, and nitrogen. Silver Instruments supplies inline vortex meters with 316L stainless steel bodies and ATEX Zone 1 certification for these jobs.
Output and Certification Requirements
Most process plants do not buy a flow meter alone. They buy a signal that can integrate with PLC or DCS. Krohne meters support 4-20 mA HART, pulse, Modbus RTU, and Profibus PA. Silver Instruments matches these protocols on our Coriolis and electromagnetic models. We also supply local indicators with totalizer functions for chemical batching.
For hazardous areas, ask for ATEX or IECEx certification. A sugar refinery in Thailand requested an electromagnetic flow meter for molasses with ATEX Zone 1 approval. We provided a DN40 meter with EPDM liner and stainless steel electrodes. The HART output connected directly to their existing PLC.
Silver Instruments Project Support
We are not a distributor for Krohne. We are a flow meter manufacturer and supplier based in Nanjing, China. Our team helps you select the right meter type, line size, liner, electrode, and output. We also handle export paperwork for Australia, Saudi Arabia, Mexico, Nigeria, and Indonesia.
Here is the thing. Many projects do not need a full re-design. If you
